ALJC for Publishers

ALPSP

Reach new markets and consortia via a risk-free sales solution
Large publishers are able to offer what is sometimes called 'The Big Deal' - access to complete collections of journals for a single negotiated rate. However, a publisher with only a handful of journals is not in a position to offer such a package, and the additional cost of 'Big Deals' from larger publishers can reduce the budget available to purchase other publishers' journals; the result is that libraries' ability to purchase high quality journals from smaller publishers is being steadily eroded.

The ALJC is a risk-free sales solution for small but well respected publishers, and has been developed in 2003 by the ALPSP (Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers) in partnership with Swets Information Services. The ALJC is a combined package of journals provided by individual publishers in a cooperative uniform package.

The ALJC has gone from strength to strength and is recognised as an important player in the consortia market after achieved impressive market penetration. In 2009 it consists of 773 journals from 49 publishers with nine discipline-specific subsets available in:

  • Archaeology & History
  • Law
  • Life Sciences
  • Linguistics & Arts
  • Medicine
  • Religion & Philosophy
  • Science
  • Social Sciences
  • Technology

About the ALPSP Learned Journals Collection
We work with the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) in a unique partnership to bring the new ALPSP Learned Journals Collection (ALJC) to the library market. Swets organizes and sells the collection under a single umbrella contract, pricing model and delivery platform.
